Monterosso al Mare is the first of the five Cinque Terre towns when travelling from north to south. It is the largest and most commercial of the communities and features the longest sandy beach. There are many hotels and and other lodgings are available in Monterosso, but it is important to pre-book your accommodation if you plan to visit Monterosso during the busy summer period.
The Cinque Terre trail between Monterosso and Vernazza is the steepest and most challenging portion of the ancient trail.
